Bio

Lisa Tripp

I work as an Assistant Professor of School Media and Youth Services at the College of Information at Florida State University (in Tallahassee, Florida!). Prior to moving here, I was Associate Director of the Institute for Multimedia Literacy at the University of Southern California, where I worked on a variety of research and program development efforts related to new media literacy (in both K-12 and higher ed). My Ph.D. is in Communication from the University of California at San Diego.

My research focuses on digital media and learning, with an emphasis on how media production and critical media analysis can be integrated into progressive instruction. I have a background in the fields of youth media and video production, as well as a long-standing commitment to educational and digital equity initiatives. Most of my research has been qualitative, ethnographic, and action-based. For the past few years, I have collaborated on the Digital Youth Project, an ethnographic study of young people living and learning with new media. Some of the other groups I have worked or collaborated with include: the Laboratory of Comparative Human Cognition, UCSD’s Center for Research in Educational Equity, Assessment, and Teaching Excellence, the Media Arts Center San Diego and the Los Angeles Unified School District Arts Education Branch.
